Sim #6: No time to say it

It’s late and Miami went 5-0.

In about 30 minutes the file will be up.  Enjoy.

Sim #4: Can anyone stop Miami?

Miami is again on a tear.   Now sitting at 15-3 on the year their 4-1 sim has increased their lead from 1.5 to 4.5 games.  Can anyone stop them?  The army?  The navy?  Anyone?  Nothing has worked so far!  Chasing the SoFlo marauders are Stockholm  and Pittsburgh tied for the wild card at 10-7 and Ramapaugh Mountain is one game behind those guys.

Things are more…fluid…in the Socratic League.  Seattle is leading the pack but it’s not a comfortable lead with Gainesville and New York one game behind and Marietta one half-game behind them.  The total separation, top to bottom, in the SL is the same and the distance between first and second in  the PL: 4.5 games.  Time will tell.

Several Injuries this sim.  Most minor but two are serious.

Brooklyn’s Hodgins will miss 4 weeks after a collision on the basepaths.

Pittsburgh lost Tashiro and Yagi for 1-2 weeks each.

Stockholm lost Peters and Zielinksi for a week or so.

Maryland lost Snyder for a week on a day to day status.

And league-leading Seattle lost starting pitcher Maximo Navarro for three months to a torn tricep.  Back luck, Maximo!

Next sim is by Mack and will take us to April 26!  Don’t miss it.

Sim #2: Miami looks upstoppable!

Another sim, sports fans and the story of the season so far in Miami!  Now an impressive 8-0 on the season the Masters of their Domain are looking like a juggernaut in the Platonic League.  Only ten games into the season and they lead in wins, batting average, runs, and OPS in offense while only hitting six home runs!  In pitching they lead in ERA, IP, Home Runs Allowed (with zero!), and strike outs!  Truly an intimidating force on the field.

On the flip side of the Miami equation is the Platonic League celler dwellers, Maryland, with another perfect record 0-8.  Not looking good for the Crab State Bandits!

In the Socratic League there are two records 5-3 and 3-5.  Either a team is tied for first or it is 2 games off the pace.  Seperation is the word for the week there!

There were, blessfully, no injuries of any sort in this sim.  That sort of luck can’t hold!

Next sim is Wednesday by Mack!  Don’t be late!

Spring Training Sim #4: The last stand of the scrubeenies

The final Spring Training sim is behind us now and we stare forward into the vague uncertainties of the regular season.  Will the rookie live up to his promise or will he find himself riding busses in Iowa in two months?  Will the wily veteran see his ligament last one more season or will it, like his hopes, snap and send him home for good.

Only time will tell, gentlemen.  Only time.

On the final spring numbers front Pittsburgh ended the fake season with a leading 17-7 season.  Chasing them were two SL teams, Jersey City and Gainesville at 15-9 each.  The top home run hitter of the spring was Miami’s Richard Vuong with 8 and the top strike out pitcher was Jersey City’s Stein with 26 fans.

On the injury front there’s bad news for Jersey City.  Starting Pitcher Paul Valles was lost to a torn labrum for 12 months.  He’ll miss the entire season.  No other significant injuries were reported.

The next sim begins the regular season and will be by Mack for the standard five day period.  Enjoy the season, gentlemen.  Enjoy the season.

Spring Training Sim #2: Spring Boogaloo!

We’re halfway through Spring Training now and teams need to get serious about making those cuts and getting their key players the playing time necessary to start the season fresh and ready to win!

Our current batting leader is:

Gainesville’s Milton Blount at .516!

Our current pitcher leader is:

an infinite number of pitchers with an ERA of zero and 2 wins.  Let’s see some separation, people!

Two pieces of bad news this sim:

Miami has lost the services of Calle Bergstrom for at least this season and possibly the next with a torn calf muscle.  Tough break for the one time top prospect.

The other isn’t as serious.  From the chucklehead file comes Ramapaugh Mountain’s Carlos Lara.  Lara’s been suspended for 4 games for using the words ‘umpire’ and ‘three blind mice’ in proximity.  Keep your temper, my friend!

Next sim is Monday by Mack!  Get those updates in!

Offseason Sim #11: Spring has sprung

The robins are back in the meadows and the players return to the sunshine of Spring Training.  Whether it’s Florida or Arizona it’s time for the heroes of the diamond field to live in elegaic hope of the new season.

The helmets are polished.  The uniforms are clean.  The rookies are hopeful and the veterans want to see if they can get just one more season of glory out of aging bodies.

Mack will be up for the sim on Wednesday.  He’ll take us to March 9th.

Offseason Sim #8: The Frozen Tundra of January

After the deals of January comes the long ice age of February.  Following the four deals of this sim are these free agent signings:

Stockholm had big signing of LF Robert McCree to a 5 year deal worth $13.25MM.

Marietta had a smaller deal signing SP Steven Page to a 2 year deal worth $7.4MM.

Keep that hot stove league steaming!  Next sim is Wednesday by Mack.  He’ll take us to mid-February!

Trade: Seattle gets the pitcher they wanted

Dateline: Marietta – This reporter is exhausted, readers!  Running from one side of the town to the other is killing me!  Marietta owner and candidate for County Commissioner Nate Wooley has made another deal for prospects, thoroughly restocking his team for the near and far future.  Has the OEL ever seen a minor league system so stocked?  This reporter thinks not!

This time, in the second deal of the day, Marietta has dealt starting pitcher Walt Pearson to Seattle.  Pearson, a 24 year old who went 8-3 with a 3.27 earned run average last season, will likely find a home near the top of the Seattle rotation.

In return for the young hurler Marietta receives AAA 3B Randy Carman and single-A 1B Juan Mejia.  In addition to the two top prospects Seattle also sends their first and second round picks in next year’s amateur draft.

Asked about the deal Pearson commented, “Well, I knew it was only a matter of time.  Did you see the look in Mr. Wooley’s eye?  I’m not sure he’s completely in control of himself.  Plus, Seattle’s owner has been calling me everyday and hanging up.  It’s been kind of creepy, really.  I’m glad the waiting is over and I can get on with finding an apartment in Seattle.  It can’t be that expensive, can it?  Heck, my three bedroom apartment in downtown Marietta above The Marietta Register newsroom costs me over $350 per month.  It CAN’T be more than that, right?”

Reached about the deal Marietta owner Wooley said, “Now I’ve got to figure out what to do with the thirten high quality first base prospects I’ve found.  Some of them better learn some other positions, I’ll tell you that!”

It does appear to be a problem for the confluence riders.  How will 13 players share one position on a roster?  It could be that Wooley will attempt to make some moves to break the logjam and acquire some pitching prospects.  It just might be.  Stay tuned for further word as events warrant.  The off season is just beginning and there’s no telling who will end up where!
